OPENING OF THE SHORT-TERM COURSE “APPLICATION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN CIVIL ENGINEERING DESIGN – ETABS SOFTWARE”

On April 16, 2021, the Faculty of Civil and Industrial Engineering (CCE), Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE), launched a short-term training course titled "Application of Information Technology in Civil Engineering Design - Special Topic: Design of High-Rise Buildings using ETABS Software" for students of the K63 XE and XF bilingual classes in Civil and Industrial Engineering. This is an annual course organized to enhance the practical design skills of students in the CCE Faculty.

Speaking at the course opening ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thanh Tung – Head of the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction – clearly stated the course's objective: to enhance the IT application capabilities in multi-story building structural design for students and newly graduated engineers. In addition, the course also provides participants with new knowledge on the principles and methods of using design software effectively, addresses practical problems commonly encountered by engineers, and offers solutions.

The course content focuses on training in the application of ETABS, SAFE, and several other design software programs developed by RD company. These are specialized structural software programs commonly used in the design of multi-story buildings in Vietnam.

The course consists of 45 lessons held on weekends, with the following specific content:

- An overview of the Finite Element Method (FEM), the fundamental method of structural analysis programs.

- Understand the principles and methods of modeling some common structural systems in multi-story buildings.

- Methods for inputting various load types (common and special) and performing combinations according to Vietnamese standards (TCVN) and some international standards.

- Several methods for structural analysis in ETABS software.

- Application of automated design functions for frame and wall structures according to several standards including ACI 318, EN 1992, TCVN 5574:2018 for beams, columns, and walls using ETABS – RD SUITES

- Overview of the floor structure analysis method in SAFE software.

- Applying SAFE technology to design conventional reinforced concrete floor systems.

At the end of the course, students will participate in an assessment test organized by the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Construction and the Construction Design and Development Company to receive a certificate.
