1. Introduction to the subject
The Department of Strength of Materials was established in August 1966, with 7 lecturers and 1 laboratory technician from Hanoi University of Technology.
Currently, the faculty of the Strength of Materials department includes 17 full-time lecturers (3 senior lecturers, 9 associate lecturers, and 6 lecturers), 2 practical instructors (1 PhD and 1 Bachelor), and 5 visiting lecturers (3 senior lecturers and 2 associate lecturers); including 3 professors, 3 associate professors, 5 PhDs, 6 masters, and 1 bachelor.
The Department of Strength of Materials is one of the fundamental departments with a long tradition of training, scientific research, and technology transfer in the fields of Civil Engineering, Mechanics, and Structural Engineering.
2. History of Formation
Along with the establishment of the University of Civil Engineering, the Department of Strength of Materials was founded in August 1966, and has been in operation for 55 years. Including the 10 years under the Faculty of Civil Engineering - Hanoi University of Technology (1956-1966), the Department of Strength of Materials has a 65-year history of training. Initially, the Department had only 7 staff members transferred from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of Hanoi University of Technology, with Professor Phan Ngoc Chau as its first head. Over 55 years of formation and development (1966-2021), more than 70 staff members have worked or are currently working at the Department. Currently, 24 staff members are working at the Department, including 19 permanent staff members and 5 retired lecturers who are still involved in the work.
The Materials Strength Laboratory was established at the same time as the Materials Strength Department. Throughout its various stages of development, the laboratory has consistently fulfilled its role in serving education, research, and production.
