1. INTRODUCTION TO THE SUBJECT

The Department of Reinforced Concrete Structures, part of the Faculty of Civil and Industrial Construction at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, was officially established in October 1959 – at that time still within the Faculty of Construction – one of the first training faculties of Hanoi University of Technology.

Currently, the faculty of the Reinforced Concrete Structures Department includes 22 full-time lecturers and 9 visiting lecturers (10 senior lecturers, 9 associate lecturers, and 12 lecturers); among them are 1 Professor, 9 Associate Professors, 7 PhDs, and 13 Masters.

Over the past 60 years, 70 staff members have worked at the Department, and currently, 31 are full-time or part-time staff, while 39 teachers have transferred to other institutions or retired.

The Department's development has been quite continuous, increasing in both quantity and quality. The Department's staff have received training both domestically and internationally. The Reinforced Concrete Structures Department is one of the specialized departments of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, achieving not only many accomplishments in training but also making significant contributions to scientific research and practical activities.

2. HISTORY OF FORMATION

- The subject of Reinforced Concrete (RC) began to be taught at Hanoi University of Technology in the 1958-1959 academic year, under the supervision of Professors Pham Sy Liem, Le Van Thuong, and Nguyen Xuan Dang.

- In October 1959, the Reinforced Concrete Department ( thuộc Faculty of Civil Engineering, Hanoi University of Technology) was established with the first Head of Department being Professor Pham Sy Liem and two very young lecturers, Professor Ngo The Phong and Professor Nguyen Dinh Cong. Initially, the Department worked in room 204, building D - Hanoi University of Technology, along with the Departments of Steel Structures, Bridges and Roads. The four departments formed the Construction Team, the unit that registered to strive to build the first socialist labor team in the higher education sector in 1961.

- From 1963, the Departments of Reinforced Concrete, Steel and Structures were merged into the Department of Structural Engineering, headed by Professor Bui Tam Trung and with Professor Le Tho Trinh as Deputy Head.

- On August 8, 1966, the Chairman of the Government Council signed Decision No. 144/CP establishing the University of Construction from its predecessor, the Faculty of Construction of Hanoi University of Technology. At that time, the Department of Structural Engineering was again separated into three distinct departments as before. The Department of Reinforced Concrete Structures was then headed by Professor Pham Sy Liem and with Professor Ngo The Phong as Deputy Head.

- From 1993 to the present, the department has officially been operating at 55 Giai Phong Street, Hanoi.
